PERSONAL INJURY & ACCIDENT COMPENSATION

What is whiplash?

Whiplash is  a very common neck injury caused when the neck suffers a ‘jerk’ due to a backwards and forwards motion, for example when the vehicle is struck by another from behind. When a vehicle is struck by another from the side (a lateral impact, perhaps at a junction), the head is thrown sideways, with much the same effect. The soft tissues of the neck and shoulders suffer damage. This manifests itself as pain, ‘burning sensation’, headaches and limitation of movement. Whiplash injuries can often take many  months to resolve. Although whiplash is not a medical term, it does describe the mechanics of the road traffic accident. Your GP may well presecribe physiotherapy, pain-killers or even medication to reduce the inflamation.

Many victims do not realise that they are able to claim personal injury compensation for whiplash injuries. Often they suffer in silence hoping their injury will  ease with the passage of time.
