Vibration White Finger (VWF) or Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) is caused by using vibrating tools for a long period of time. Such conditions can be caused by drilling machines, road breakers, whacker plates, rotating tools, pneumatic drills, all types of compression tools, electric saws, chain saws, hammer guns grinders, percussive tools and the like.

Vibration White Finger (VWF) is the most commonly prescribed disease under the Industrial Injuries Disability Benefit.

Other disorders may also be caused by vibration. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), is thought to arise in part from entrapment or compression of nerves in the wrist which could stem from vibration. CTS caused by hand-held vibrating tools was made a prescribed disease from April 1993

Employers are duty bound to ensure that employees using such equipment have sufficient breaks to allow rest and to avoid the symptoms of VWF.
